How to Make a Beaded Spider Charm Step by Step

Looking for a cute and beginner-friendly beading project? This pastel beaded spider charm is surprisingly easy to make and can be customized with your favorite bead colors.

Once completed, you can use it as a bag charm, keychain accessory, ornament, zipper charm or handmade gift.

In this tutorial, we will show you how to build the spider body, attach the wires, shape the legs and create a balanced bead pattern.

This beginner-friendly tutorial walks you through making a pastel beaded spider charm that works as a bag charm, keychain, or ornament. You'll build the spider body and head with round beads on an eye pin, attach four wires for eight legs, then bead each leg using a pattern of small-to-large-to-small beads—finishing with a closed wire loop on every leg to secure the beads. Once all eight legs are beaded, bend them into shape and attach a clasp or ring to the head loop. The project is fully customizable with your own color choices and bead sizes.

Materials You Will Need

To make one beaded spider charm, prepare:

One large round bead for the body

One smaller round bead for the head

One eye pin

Four pieces of flexible jewelry wire

Small seed beads

2 mm accent beads

3 mm faceted beads

4 mm faceted beads

Round-nose pliers

Wire cutters

A jump ring or clasp, depending on how you plan to use the charm

You can use matching pastel beads for a soft, dreamy look or choose black, orange and purple beads for a Halloween-inspired spider.

Step 1: Build the Spider Body

Slide the large body bead onto an eye pin.

Take one piece of jewelry wire and pass it around the loop underneath the bead. Twist the wire carefully to secure it in place.

Continue wrapping until the wire feels stable, but avoid tightening it so much that the wire becomes damaged.

Repeat this process as needed until the base of the spider body is secure.

Step 2: Attach the Four Wires

Attach all four pieces of wire around the eye-pin loop using the same wrapping method.

Once secured, spread the wires evenly around the body bead.

Each wire creates two legs, giving your spider a total of eight legs.

Check the spider from the front and back to make sure the wires are distributed evenly before moving to the next step.

Step 3: Add the Head and Shape the Legs

Place the smaller head bead onto the top of the eye pin.

Trim the extra section of the eye pin, leaving enough wire to form a small loop with round-nose pliers. This loop can later be connected to a clasp, keyring or ornament hook.

Gently twist and separate the side wires into four front legs and four back legs.

Before adding beads, bend each wire slightly to create the basic shape of the spider legs.

Do not make the final bends yet. It is easier to adjust the legs after all the beads have been added.

Step 4: Add Beads to the Legs

Work on one leg at a time.

Begin close to the spider body with smaller beads, add one or two faceted accent beads in the middle, and finish with small seed beads near the end.

An example leg pattern is:

Two 1.5 mm seed beads

One 2 mm bead

One 3 mm faceted bead

Two 4 mm faceted beads

One 3 mm faceted bead

One 2 mm bead

Two 1.5 mm seed beads

You do not need to follow this pattern exactly. Adjust the colors, shapes and bead sizes to create your own design.

For a balanced appearance, repeat approximately the same pattern on the leg directly opposite it.

Step 5: Finish Each Wire End

After adding the final bead, trim away the excess wire.

Leave a small amount of wire at the end and use round-nose pliers to form a closed loop. This prevents the beads from sliding off and creates a neat finished appearance.

Repeat the process for all eight legs.

Check each loop carefully to make sure there are no sharp wire ends.

Step 6: Adjust the Legs and Finish

Once all eight legs are beaded, gently bend them into shape.

Separate the front and back legs, then adjust the angles until the spider can sit evenly or hang in a balanced position.

Attach a keyring, lobster clasp, ornament hook or chain to the loop above the head.

Your beaded spider charm is now complete.
